lecture overview:
with the accelerated aging of the population, china’s healthcare system faces mounting challenges to its sustainability. therefore, examining the impact of population aging on healthcare expenditures is of great significance. this study utilizes inpatient data from beijing and data from the china family panel studies (cfps), applying the das gupta multivariate decomposition method to assess the contribution of key factors, including age structure, to the growth in healthcare costs. based on the findings, targeted policy recommendations are proposed.

speaker bio:
xu duo is an assistant research fellow at the institute of population and labor economics, chinese academy of social sciences, and serves as editor of chinese journal of population science. he is also deputy secretary-general of the special committee on artificial intelligence and flexible employment of the labor economics society. his research focuses primarily on population economics and healthcare policy. xu has published numerous academic articles as the first or corresponding author in esteemed domestic and international journals, including population research, health policy and planning, journal of economic behavior and organization, and china economic review. he is also the author of the monograph decoding demand for internet healthcare: economic theory and big data empirical evidence.
