from november 22 to 24, ten undergraduate and postgraduate students from the school of labor and human resources at renmin university of china represented their university in the 9th national hr innovation and practice competition (hru competition) held in xiong’an, hebei province. the grand event attracted over 1,000 participants from 100 universities across the country.

after three days of intense competition across seven tracks—practical design, digital hr, labor dispute resolution, group discussions, case analysis, workplace practice, and hr-english—ruc students demonstrated exceptional professionalism and practical skills, winning individual grand prizes in all tracks. the ruc team also claimed the grand prize for overall performance, achieving a clean sweep of the competition’s highest honors.

this outstanding achievement reflects the school’s emphasis on fostering excellence, the dedication of its faculty, and the relentless efforts of the participants. at the beginning of the semester, professors luo nanfeng, feng wen, zhao kai, and wang hongfei carefully organized and promoted the competition, selecting ten promising students through interviews. each student was strategically matched with tracks that suited their strengths and potential.

following the team’s formation, faculty members, including school party secretary prof. chen yao, hr management department chair prof. luo nanfeng, and innovation training center director prof. chen lifan, held discussions with the students to address challenges they faced during preparation and provide institutional support. mentors feng wen and zhao kai meticulously studied the competition rules and organized multiple mock sessions, offering students invaluable hands-on experience. professors cheng yanyuan, li yuhui, zhang hao, chen lifan, and li hairong also provided tailored guidance and industry insights to strengthen the students’ preparation.

after securing the grand prize in the beijing-tianjin-hebei regional competition, the students promptly reflected on their experiences and addressed areas for improvement. despite tight schedules and heavy workloads, they embraced a “learn-by-competing” approach, enhancing their academic knowledge and practical skills in human resource management. through additional learning, expert consultations, and peer discussions, they refined their strategies and delivered a stellar performance at the national finals, earning unanimous praise from judges, faculty, and competitors alike.

beyond the students’ success, ruc faculty also showcased the school’s educational achievements during the hru competition. at the beijing-tianjin-hebei regional competition, prof. luo nanfeng delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony and participated in the industry-academia integration forum to discuss pathways for collaborative talent cultivation in hr management. at the national finals, prof. mao kaixian presented a keynote titled “new developments and insights in undergraduate hr management programs: the ruc experience” at the forum on hr management excellence, sharing the school’s innovative approaches to talent development.

the exceptional performance of ruc students at the 9th hru competition highlights the slhr’s profound expertise and strength in hr management education. this success represents not just a competitive victory but also a testament to the school’s innovative practices in student training. by establishing the innovation training center and aligning academic programs with practical opportunities, the school has created a comprehensive framework for developing students’ capabilities. faculty contributions during the competition further reinforced the school’s influence in the hr management discipline, offering new ideas and directions for the industry’s growth.
